What is depression?

Depression is a serious ilness that requires medical attention. When someone is depressed they have troubling dealing with everyday activities such as eating, sleeping, and talking.

 

What are some symptoms of depression?

Symptoms include:

  • feeling sad, hopeless, irritable, anxious, or guilty

  • loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities

  • tiredness

  • inability to eat or sleep properly

  • suicidal thoughts or attempts

  • aches, headaches, or digestive problems

 

How can I treat depression?

The first step in treating depression, like any iless, is to see a doctor or mental helth professional. The doctor will asses and diagnose depression if it is prevelant in their tests. Antidepressants, psychotherapy, or electroconvulsive therapy will be prescribed to help overcome depression. 

 

What can I do to help myself overcome depression?

  • break up large tasks into smaller ones

  • talk to friends and family about your feelings

  • hold off on making important decisions until you are better
